The GE Fogg building is located on Bancroft Road – off Mile End Road, Bethnal Green, and forms part of the Queen Mary University’s Mile End campus. It is neighboured by the Carlton Square Conservation area.
The G.E Fogg building is home to Queen Mary University’s Schools of Bioscience and Psychology. Named after famous after Gordon Elliot Fogg, an eminent British biologist who was educated at Queen Mary College, and offers excellent on-campus facilities.
It contains a range of modern and well-equipped science labs, such as a plant growth facility, controlled environment rooms, cold rooms, marine and freshwater aquariums, for cell biology, structural biology and aquatic biology.
We are proposing to install essential roof plants at G.E. Fogg Building, as part of our efforts to preserve one of our key scientific buildings on the Mile End campus.
It is essential that the Fogg Building has a modern, energy efficient building services to support the scientific research and teaching. Due to the type of operations within the building, it is essential that the Fogg Building has a ventilation structure to appropriately filter and dispose of flue gases. To achieve this, a roof plant will be added to the existing building and in the sunken garden on Bancroft Road, with associated acoustic screening.
This application is supported by an associated application, which will remove and re-provide Photovoltaic panels around the site. These will be re-provided at roof level on the neighbouring Peter Landin Building, which also forms part of our Mile End Campus.
